Bill Flores
Musicians' musician Bill Flores will join the Gypsy Blues Band as a special guest.
A lifelong musician and eighth generation Venturan, Bill Flores is a multi-instrumentalist of considerable note. Influenced at a young age by his father, “Kahuna Bill” Flores, a lap steel guitarist specializing in Hawaiian music, he went on to master dobro, guitar, pedal steel guitar, saxophone, button accordion, mandolin, fiddle and banjo. Bill returns to Bowlful of Blues this year as a special guest with The Gypsy Blues Band. He has lent his exceptional talents at this festival on several occasions in different settings, including the first two in ’83 and ’84 with the Pontiax.
Over the course of his career Bill Flores has performed and recorded with a wide variety of musicians including Wanda Jackson, Lowell Fulsom, Big Joe Turner, Rosie Flores, Mike Seeger, Fernest Arceneaux, Louie Ortega (of the Texas Tornadoes), the Rincon Ramblers, Whiskey Chimp, the Ventucky String Band, Chris Cairns Band, Little Jonny & the Giants, Blue Stew and many more.
Bill has toured across the U.S., Canada and Europe and has appeared at such festivals as the Strawberry Music Festival, the Kerrville Folk Festival, Live Oak Festival, Peer Blues Festival (Belgium), Nice Jazz Festival (France), Vienne Jazz Festival (France), the High Sierra Festival, Sacramento Blues Festival, the Wild Iris Festival, Columbia River Gorge Mixed-Bag Festival, and others. Currently he is touring with Jeff Bridges’ band, the Abiders, and Ventura-based Hot Roux. (When he’s in town, Bill works days as a guitar and instrument tech at Jensen’s Guitars and Music Co. in Santa Barbara.)
