bluesgatorbgWhat are the hours for the Bowlful of Blues?

The box-office will open at 1:00 p.m. and the gate will open at 3:00 p.m. The concert will start at 4:00 p.m. and end around 9:30 p.m.

Where is Libbey Bowl?

The historic Libbey Bowl is located in Libbey Park in downtown Ojai. Highway 150, the only main route into and out of downtown Ojai, becomes Ojai Avenue as it passes through town. The address for GPS is 307 E. Ojai Ave., Ojai, CA 93023.

Where do I park when I get there?

There is no designated parking lot for the Libbey Bowl but there is on-street parking within walking distance. Be sure to check street signs for parking limitations. There is a small free parking lot behind the Arcade (the arched buildings) on Matilija Ave, one street north of Ojai Ave. There is another free Park-and-Ride lot at the corner of Ojai Ave. and Fox St., 2 blocks east of Libbey Park. Please don’t block any driveways and be sure to lock your vehicle. Note: the VIP package includes a reserved parking space within one block of the park.

Is there handicapped parking and a wheelchair seating area?

Yes, there is a small lot on the south side of the Post Office, accessed from Signal Street. There will be signage and a monitor to check for disabled persons’ tags or decals. The park and Libbey Bowl are handicapped-accessible and there is an area for wheelchairs just behind the stationary seats. Our volunteer monitors can help you find it.

Can I buy my ticket when I get there?

Yes, tickets can be purchased at the ticket booth for $45 for adults and $20 for kids 7-15. Kids 6 and under are free. Cash, checks and credit cards will be accepted. The box office will open at 1 p.m.

How does admittance work?

Wristbands will be issued at the gate. There will be one for general admission and a second for the VIP ticket holders. A different wristband — after age-verification to purchase alcohol — will be given to minors under 21.

Can I come and go from the event?

Yes, your wristband will give you come-and-go privileges for any reason. Our main food vendors and the restrooms are located near the box office. We will create an easy, exit-only corridor to ease traffic at the main entrance.

Will there be food and beverages for sale at the Bowlful of Blues?

Yes, the Cowboy John’s Smoken BBQ, L&T Catering, and All American Softy food trucks will be there. Bottled water will be available at the Bowlful of Blues booth.

Will there be alcoholic beverages for sale at the Bowlful of Blues?

City rules do not allow alcoholic beverages to be brought into the park by event patrons but we will have a variety of fine beers on tap and wine will also be available. You will have to show your ID and receive an over-21 wristband to be allowed to purchase alcohol.  A separate super-premium bar will serve the VIP section.

How does seating work at the Bowlful of Blues?

A general admission ticket allows you to sit in any regular bowl seat (except in the designated VIP section), or to set up a deck chair or small blanket on the lawn area. High-back chairs will be allowed only in the rear portion of the lawn area.

What can I bring if we are sitting on the lawn area?

Feel free to bring pretty much what you would bring to any outdoor festival: small beach blanket, hat, water, snacks or juice (absolutely no alcohol or glass containers), cooler, deck chairs, sun screen, cash for food or craft vendors. Please limit the size of your blanket to allow others to have room as well.

What kind of deck chairs can we bring?

The first part of the lawn area closest to the stage will be for small blankets or low back chairs (28 inches height from the ground or less). We will have attendants on hand to help you determine if your chair is okay. Behind this area is for taller and high back chairs.

So what exactly CAN’T be brought into the Bowlful of Blues?

Dogs, cats or pets of any kind

Alcohol

Any kind of glass container

Personal umbrellas or tents

Wagons or carts (unless they are for unloading family gear and then returned to your vehicle or locked and stored off site)

What about dancing?

What would a blues concert be without dancing? There will be areas for dancing in the left and center areas in front of the stage. Dancers will not block the VIP seating section on the right. Please note that the dancing areas are concrete, so wear appropriate footwear.

What about cameras or recording equipment?

Feel free to take lots of pictures and small personal video cameras are fine, but professional recording gear is not allowed. Be sure to post your favorites on our Facebook page.

How do I get money to buy food or all the cool stuff at the Bowlful of Blues?

Bring cash! Checks or credit cards may be accepted by some vendors but come prepared. There is no cash machine on site, but there is one within walking distance, across Ojai Ave, at the Chevron gas station.

What’s the weather going to be like?

The forecast calls for a high of 83 degrees and a low of 53 which is perfect weather for Ojai in September! Light, loose clothing is recommended for the daytime hours with something to cover up after dark. Check this NWS weather page for Ojai or your own favorite site as the date gets closer.

Bring a hat and sunscreen.

Stay hydrated! Drink lots of water.

Make sure your kids are protected too.

Most of the seating area is under a shade cover. There are shady areas available on the lawn. If you are prone to overexposure, try to get there early enough to find a spot under an oak tree.

How do I get a drink of water?

Water will be sold in the food vendor area and at the Bowlful of Blues information booth on the lawn. There also is a drinking fountain near the tennis courts. We recommend bringing reusable water bottles for refilling there.

I lost or found something, now what?

Lost and Found will be at the Bowlful of Blues information booth.

What’s in it for my kids?

Due to the confined nature of the seating area and out of respect to others sitting there, we ask that families with young children set up on the lawn area. Libbey Park has a wonderful children’s play area within earshot of the concert. You also might want to bring along small entertainments and reading materials to keep them occupied and allow you to enjoy the show. Please no balls, Frisbees or things that can injure or distract others. We suggest that you have one adult for each child in your group to ensure that your family has a safe and enjoyable experience. Tickets for kids 7-15 can be purchased at the ticket booth for $20. Kids 6 and under are free.

Can I volunteer?

We would love for you to volunteer, and we will give you a ticket for helping. Please check out our Volunteer page for details and options.

How do I become a Bowlful of Blues Vendor?

We have a limited number of vendor sites, so applying early is essential. See our Vendor page for details and a submission form for consideration.

How do I submit my application to be a future Bowlful of Blues performer?

Send an email, with a bio and video links, to our Musical Director Michael Kaufer at michael@bowlfulofblues.org.

Can I get a refund?

Unused tickets can be refunded for $35 at the box office from 2:00 to 4:00pm only on the day of the festival. Tickets bought online (that haven’t already been mailed to you) can be refunded at Brown Paper Tickets’ discretion (check the website for details). This event is “rain or shine” so no refunds will be issued for weather out of our control.

What does Ojai have in the way of lodging?

Ojai has a variety of hotels, inns, retreats, bed & breakfasts and more. Many are within a short walking distance of Libbey Bowl. Here is a link to some of these accommodations.
